I expect the reason why MAPPA (executives) agreed to adapt this was because they were confident in their in-house CG team to make the timeline work in time for a release. And yes, MAPPA are on the production committee, but they are fourth down which means they don't have much sway when it comes to decisions regarding production outside of creative aspects and they do not make as much profit as the three committee bodies above them. Given the fact that SnK blu-ray sales aren't much as S1 (The collective amount of S2, S3P1, and S3P2 blu-ray sales don't even come close to S1) and MAPPA (executives) must have been fully aware of this, I don't believe MAPPA agreed to take this on purely for financial reasons. |

| Given the circumstances Mappa should have logically and rightfully turned down the committee request for animating aot. The real problem is that if no studio was found and too much time passsed it could have been even worse because of lower budget + a potentially worse studio. The blame should go to both Mappa and Kodansha but the policy of the latter really wouldn't have allowed a healthy production anyway. |

Mappa have more employees more than 200 Wit only have 40/50. Yes not all of them work on AOT but they are there Mappa can use them. The animation of JJK's OP is done by the team of a director that the manga artist requested themselves. MAPPA handles the effects and compositing, but all the key animation is done by a separate team. I'm also saying that MAPPA had finished most of JJK by the time it was 2020 and it was in its final stages when the AoT S4 trailer dropped. Most of MAPPA's staff were crunching to get this anime done throughout the second half of 2020. I don't think you know much about anime production so I'd recommend you do your own research as to how this season of AoT came about and why it looks the way it does. One episode of good looking anime takes at least 2 months to be made, which studios often don't have the luxury of having when production committees are breathing down their necks to get it done by a certain time. I'm not defending MAPPA for the trailer, that was outsourced to other animators, because that was a dick move to generate false hype. But you should stop bashing them purely due to JJK looks better. JJK has had a lot more time to be produced as opposed to AoT. MAPPA (executives) agreed to animate season 4 because they were confident in their team to get a good looking adaptation out in time with Kodansha's stupidly short production timeline. The main people at fault are Kodansha and the rest of the committee. MAPPA higher-ups deserve blame as well. And just so you know, Chainsaw Man is guaranteed to look better than AoT S4, but that's not because MAPPA cares more about it. It's because they don't have a production committee telling them to get it done in time for a manga's conclusion as is the case with AoT. They have a lot more time to work, convince freelance animators to join the project, and have a healthy production cycle. |

That took him 3 months to make. 3 months. Pair that with the work the studio needed to make it look like the way it did, it would've easily been 4-5months of work for just those couple of minutes of animation. We don't know if Imai is involved with S4 yet because animators aren't credited until after the episode they worked on airs. So he could be, he might not be. The point is that animators are less willing to work with a studio on an animation if there's horrible production deadlines, which is the case with S4. Also, Araki is a legendary director for sure, but I've read that his involvement with AoT became less so after each season. Most of his work went into S1. |
| Is CGI really that cheap compared to normal animations? I mean, i can't find any advantages of that solution, it just looks bad, and makes watching fight scenes much less enjoyable. There were anime where cgi was pretty good (Houseki no Kuni is for me a perfect example, how cgi should look like), so why few scenes in 6ep looked like PS2 game? |
